The NYSUT Member Benefits Trust-endorsed Voluntary Disability Insurance Plan is now being provided by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

MetLife has partnered with NYSUT Member Benefits for more than 25 years, when it was named the provider of our endorsed Auto & Homeowners Insurance program. Since that time, MetLife has demonstrated its tireless commitment to NYSUT members by providing plan participants with superior customer service and a continued willingness to meet their needs.

Applications for the new Disability Insurance program are now available, with coverage effective dates on or after January 1, 2018 from the Plan Administrator, Mercer Consumer. Members currently covered by Unimerica will be transitioned to coverage provided by MetLife effective Jan. 1, 2018.

The Member Benefits Trust-endorsed Disability Insurance Plan provides valuable income replacement benefits to help meet your living expenses if you become partially or totally disabled and are unable to work. Your monthly expenses don’t stop if you are unable to work due to a serious illness or injury. Disability Insurance can be customized to fit within your budget and still provide peace of mind until you are able to get back on your feet and return to work.

The NYSUT Member Benefits Trust-endorsed Disability Insurance Plan is underwritten by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and administered by Mercer Consumer, a service of Mercer Health & Benefits Administration LLC.

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Disability Plan is a NYSUT Member Benefits Trust (Member Benefits)-endorsed program. Member Benefits has an endorsement arrangement of 5% of gross premiums for this program. All such payments to Member Benefits are used solely to defray the costs of administering its various programs and, where appropriate, to enhance them. The Insurer pools the premiums of Member Benefits participants who are insured for the purposes of determining premium rates and accounting. Coverage outside of this plan may have rates and terms that are not the same as those obtainable through Member Benefits. The Insurer or Member Benefits may hold premium reserves that may be used to offset rate increases and/or fund such other expenses related to the plan as determined appropriate by Member Benefits. Member Benefits acts as your advocate; please contact Member Benefits at 800-626-8101 if you experience a problem with any endorsed program.

Agency fee payers to NYSUT are eligible to participate in NYSUT Member Benefits-endorsed programs.
