Important news regarding MB-endorsed life & disability insurance programs

The Trustees of the NYSUT Member Benefits Trust review all Member Benefits Trust-endorsed programs on a regular basis to ensure that each program best meets the needs of the NYSUT membership and their families.

As a result of this regular review process, the Member Benefits Trust Trustees recently voted to name the MetLife organization as the new Plan Underwriter for our endorsed Voluntary Disability, Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance programs.


MetLife has partnered with NYSUT Member Benefits dating back to 1992 when it was named the program provider of our endorsed Auto & Homeowners Insurance program. Since that time, MetLife has demonstrated its tireless dedication to NYSUT members by providing plan participants with superior customer service and a continued willingness to meet our needs.

We are looking forward to working with MetLife to continue to enhance our endorsed Voluntary Disability, Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance programs.



EFFECTIVE DATES OF ENDORSED PROGRAM PROVIDER CHANGES
****Effective January 1, 2018, the NYSUT Member Benefits Trust-endorsed Voluntary Disability Insurance Plan (currently underwritten by Unimerica) will be underwritten by MetLife.

****Effective March 1, 2018, the NYSUT Member Benefits Trust-endorsed Voluntary Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance Plans (currently underwritten by U.S. Life (AIG)) will be underwritten by MetLife.



CURRENT & FUTURE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
Current program participants will receive an official announcement from NYSUT Member Benefits 60 days prior to the effective date of the change. A follow-up mailing will occur on or near the effective date of the change that will include new plan materials provided by MetLife. Members currently covered by U.S. Life and Unimerica will be transitioned to coverage provided by MetLife as of the effective date of change.

Please note that there will be very few changes to the current benefit packages, premiums or premium collection procedures. However, participants will be made aware of new claim filing procedures. It is also important to note that Mercer Consumer will remain the Plan Administrator for these programs.



MEMBERS LOOKING FOR COVERAGE
Unimerica will continue to accept applications for the current Voluntary Disability Insurance Plan through August 31, 2017. New enrollees will be transferred to the new program provider with current participants on January 1, 2018.

Applications for the new MetLife Disability Insurance Plan will be available in fall 2017 with coverage effective dates on or after January 1, 2018; please make sure to visit this website for more details in the next few months.

U.S. Life (AIG) will continue to accept applications for the current Voluntary Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance Plans through December 1, 2017. New enrollees will be transferred to the new MetLife Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance programs with current participants on or after March 1, 2018.

Applications for the new MetLife Term Life and Level Term Life Insurance programs will be available in November 2017 with coverage effective dates on or after March 1, 2018; again, please visit this website for more details in the coming months.
